I’ve always enjoyed reading children’s and teen books and media and I love hearing about what kids and teens are reading. I occasionally read sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal romances. I also belong to a wonderful book group of friends who make sure that I read at least 6 books written for adults each year. I have recently discovered that streaming audiobooks is a great way to get housework done and also read a book.
My reading goal for 2021 is to continue my goal of 2020, which was to read a bunch of books for kids and teens across a wide variety of different genres and formats. My current selection technique is to go into the library’s Hoopla app, limit the books to juvenile and then pick the first book that comes up that I haven’t read that’s the first in a series. In 2020 this was a great way to read some classics that I never got around to reading as a kid, some amazing books written by #ownvoices authors, and some popular books for kids and teens that I just wouldn’t have picked up any other way (*cough, Jimmy Patterson books, cough*).
Some of my favorites over the last few years are the audio version of With the Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo (read by the author and it’s amazing), Ghost by Jason Reynolds, and The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill.
I also read a lot of books with my 6 year old, so let me know what your family is enjoying right now and I would happily give some suggestions of what to read next!
