Join Bret Grote, Legal Director of Abolitionist Law Center, as he discusses the central role of popular movements in fighting for change, ALC’s approach to movement-lawyering, the importance of re-orienting how violent offenses are treated so as to emphasize restorative and healing justice and redemption, and the relationship between efforts to rollback mass incarceration and other struggles for economic and social justice.

The Abolitionist Law Center is a Pittsburgh-based prison litigation firm that engages in public education, advocacy, community organizing, and litigation to further movements seeking to end race and class-based mass incarceration. Bret is a 2013 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and was recognized as the Distinguished Public Interest Scholar for his graduating class. He was the Isabel and Alger Hiss Racial Justice Fellow at the Center for Constitutional Rights in 2012. He also is an adjunct professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
