Film Lecture Series: New Hollywood
August 22, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
An event every week that begins at 6:00pm on Wednesday, repeating until September 26, 2018
The American New Hollywood era began in the late 1960s with the collapse of the Hollywood studio system that had been dominant for nearly 50 years. This collapse happened for many reasons and was followed by a renaissance in stylistic imagination not seen in American film-making for decades. Led by a group of young, brash actors, directors, editors, screenwriters, and cinematographers, the films of the New Hollywood era reflected the social changes happening during this volatile time in American History. Our course will begin with a discussion of socioeconomic conditions which precipitated the fall of the studio system. We’ll continue with an exploration of the style, content, and politics of the following films:
- The Graduate
- Easy Rider
- Midnight Cowboy
- Taxi Driver
- Coming Home
Note: There will be no meeting on Wednesday, August 29th
