Astrophobia: Space Horror Film Series – Sharpsburg
July 10 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pmFree – $5.00
For as long as we have gazed at the stars, we have wondered (and worried) about what may be living and lurking on other planets. This summer, we’ll be exploring some of these fears with a 3 film series: Astrophobia.
Each film will be presented by a different PhD student from the University of Pittsburgh’s film studies department.
Our July film is Alien and will be introduced by Sonia Lupher. She earned a Master’s degree from Columbia University, where she held a research assistantship with the Women Film Pioneers Project under Dr. Jane Gains. Her dissertation focuses on the ties between women’s horror filmmaking, contemporary women’s genres, and the history of women’s cinema. She is the creator and editor of Cut-Throat Women: A Database of Women Who Make Horror, which aims to shed light on the role of women in horror film production while providing a resource to scholars, fans, and filmmakers. Her work has been published in Critical Quarterly and she has a forthcoming piece in Ecrans.
Space is limited, so please reserve your seat in advance. Deluxe tickets include 2 slices of pizza (Cheese or Pepperoni) and a can of pop (Coke, Sprite, or Diet Coke) for $5.
