2021 Winter Reading Challenge

Read. Connect with the library. Challenge yourself.

Libraries across Allegheny County have collaborated to present a reading challenge for all ages. Grab your favorite hot drink or find a cozy reading spot and see how much you can read or listen to this winter!

This year, we have various activities that earn you points. Log the books, comics, magazines, audiobooks, and other items that you are reading or listening to this winter on Beanstack! Earn points and virtual badges for logging books/reading materials and for completing other fun activities.

10 lucky participants from across the county will win $25 Visa gift cards!

Participants who list Cooper-Siegel Community Library or Sharpsburg Community Library as their home library can also earn a prize book if they earn over 50 points by the end of February.

How it Works

  1. Download the Beanstack app. Click here for a how-to video. Or go to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Winter Reading page (don’t worry, you’re in the right spot!)
  2. You’ll then sign-in (if you have done Summer Reading with us on Beanstack before) or sign-up for the first time!
  3. Don’t forget to make sure that Cooper-Siegel Community Library or Sharpsburg Community Library is listed as the library you visit most often to be eligible for the prize book.
  4. If you can’t remember your password or username, click the password or username reset link.
  5. Once you’re in, you can start logging your reading and activities.
  6. We’re challenging everyone to earn at least 50 points this winter. Looking for book recommendations? Try out our Surprise Bundle form.
  7. Every 25 points gets you a virtual badge. See how many points you can earn!
  8. Do you prefer a paper option? Stop by Cooper-Siegel Community Library or Sharpsburg Community Library during our curbside hours and we will give you the print version.
